Diversity and Inclusion Policy

Our Commitment

My Breast Friend's Wedding (My Breast Friends, Inc.) is dedicated to creating a welcoming and inclusive space for all women, where every participant feels valued, respected, and empowered. We believe that diversity enriches our community and strengthens our collective impact. We are committed to fostering an equitable and inclusive culture, free from discrimination and bias.

What We Value

  • Diversity: We embrace and celebrate the richness of experiences, perspectives, and backgrounds that each woman brings, including those based on race, ethnicity, age, sexual orientation or identity, education, disability, religion, socioeconomic status, and other dimensions of identity.

  • Inclusion: We actively work to create an environment where all attendees feel a sense of belonging, can participate fully, and have equal opportunities to engage and contribute.

  • Equity: We strive to identify and address systemic barriers and biases that may create unequal opportunities or experiences for any group of women, ensuring fair treatment and access for all.

Our Policy in Action

To uphold our commitment, we will implement the following:

1. Inclusive Communication and Outreach

  • Accessible Language: All communications, including promotional materials, event descriptions, and on-site signage, will use clear, concise, and gender-neutral language that is free from jargon and stereotypes.

  • Diverse Representation: Promotional materials will showcase the diversity of women we aim to attract, featuring individuals from various backgrounds, ethnicities, ages, abilities, and identities.

  • Pronoun Inclusivity: We will offer attendees the opportunity to share their pronouns as they deem appropriate, whether during registration for nametags or in introductions.

  • Multiple Formats: When possible, event materials will be made available in multiple accessible formats, such as large print, Braille, and digital versions compatible with screen readers, where feasible.

2. Accessible and Welcoming Environment

  • Venue Accessibility: We will select a venue that is physically accessible to individuals with disabilities, offering features like ramps, elevators, wide doorways, accessible restrooms, and clear signage.

  • Gender-Neutral Facilities: We will provide gender-neutral restrooms in addition to gender-specific ones, and work with the venue to provide inclusive signage.

  • Sensory Considerations: We will consider the needs of neurodiverse attendees and those sensitive to overstimulation by providing quiet spaces, managing sound levels, and avoiding flashing effects or harsh lighting where possible.

  • Flexible Seating: Seating arrangements will be flexible to accommodate diverse needs, including wheelchair-accessible seating and options for standing or comfortable spaces for those needing breaks.

3. Diverse Representation and Content

  • Diverse Speaker Lineup: We will actively seek out and feature speakers, panelists, and facilitators who represent a wide range of backgrounds, experiences, expertise, and perspectives, avoiding tokenism.

  • Inclusive Content: Content and presentations will be developed to be relevant and interesting to a diverse audience, respecting cultural differences and avoiding language or topics that could exclude or marginalize any group.

  • Cultural Awareness: We will be mindful of cultural and religious holidays and practices when scheduling the event and provide appropriate accommodations.

4. Training and Accountability

  • Staff Training: All event staff and volunteers will receive training on disability awareness, cultural competency, inclusive language, and respectful communication to ensure a welcoming and supportive environment for all attendees.

  • Code of Conduct: A clear code of conduct will be established and communicated to all participants, outlining expectations for respectful behavior and providing accessible channels for reporting any incidents of harassment or discrimination.

  • Feedback and Improvement: We will actively solicit feedback from attendees, specifically on diversity, equity, and inclusion aspects of the event, through surveys and other channels to identify areas for improvement and ensure continuous growth.

5. Celebrating and Empowering Women

  • Women-Focused Activities: We will offer activities and networking opportunities designed to empower and connect women, fostering a sense of community and shared purpose.

  • Highlighting Achievements: We will celebrate the achievements and contributions of women from diverse backgrounds, providing inspiration and recognition.

This Diversity and Inclusion Policy is a living document that will be reviewed and updated regularly based on feedback and evolving best practices. We are committed to creating an event that truly embodies our values and provides an enriching experience for all women.
